    Not sure if people still view this section of the board but I thought I would post anyway. I'm going to be looking myself but some other advice would be nice.

    Budget ~$1000 CAD. OK if over a bit in price.
    Looking for a gaming/work computer.

    CPU: Intel i5 or i7
    RAM: 8GB minimum required
    Vid Card: Prefer NVIDIA
    HD: 500GB is enough
    +Standard DVD Drive

    Don't need a monitor,keyboard,etc.

    Thanks.
    Peter: Excuse me, is your refrigerator running?
    Because if it is, it probably runs like you - very homosexually.

    I still pop in here. i'll check conversion rates to usd and be back in a lil bit. How much gaming do you do? Like to you want the highest end vid card or something with a reasonable price tag like the GTX 260 or what?

    OK so here is an initial spec:
    LG DVD Burner 27.99

    COOLER MASTER Storm Scout 89.99

    GIGABYTE GV-N26SO-896I GeForce GTX 260 204.99

    CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 99.00 (-20 rebate bringing it to $79)

    G.SKILL 4GB X2 191.98

    GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD3 134.99

    Intel Core i5-660 Clarkdale 3.33GHz 207.99

    Grand total $957.92 USD ( Google conversion says "989.626648 Canadian dollars")

    Not to mention you could always spend $200 extra and get this combo if you could live with dual Radeon HD 4860 cards Which seems fine to me even though I'm a Nvidia man myself

    The best advice I can give: If you decide on a list of products be It i5 or i7 stick to It.
    I wasted about £250 to £300 on things I didn't need, or know anything about.
    Do your research about what you want It may take a little longer, but you will safe money on things you won't need.

    Hello,

    I want to get a PC, sick of my laptop.

    Budget: 50,000 - 70,000 Yen (Basically 500-700 dollars)
    Primary use is gaming. I don't need a hard drive as I have 4 satas.
    Secondary use is for recording so I require a pretty decent sound card and firewire. (Separate to the budget listed above, just need a recommendation)

    Your help would be very appreciated.

    Core i5 or cheap AMD processor (like the Athlon II X3 435).
    For graphics, probably the HD 4850 or GTX260.

    Would this make for a good budget gaming rig?

    MSI 790XT-G45 AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard $89.99
    G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 $99.99
    AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition Callisto 3.2GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache $99.99
    HIS H467QS1GH Radeon HD 4670 1GB 128-bit DDR3 $82.99
    COOLER MASTER GX Series RS750 750W PSU $79.99
    Cooler Master HAF 932 Full Tower Case $139.98

    Grand Total: $592.93

    I mean, I don't think it will be the greatest thing in the world, but when it comes to the price/performance ratio, I'd say that it's damn right worth it.

    Detale and others, what to do with $500/600?

    A friend of mine, coming from the US, is going to bring me some hardware parts.
    In brief, I need a new Mobo, processor and Memory kit and I don't have more then $600 to spend.
    I'm checking prices at newegg.com

    The parts I have:
    - Tower Case;
    - Corsair TX850W Power Supply;
    - GeForce 9800GT;
    - GeForce 8600GT (PhysX);
    - Monitor (res:1920x1200);

    Parts I want to change:
    - Mobo M2N32-SLI Delux;
    - AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200 (always running at stock 2.6 GHz);
    - Memory: 2GB G.Skill (I never understood the timing things).

    What I do:
    - I play games but the config I have today is already "almost" enough for me.
    - I work with Adobe appz (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop).
    - I'm thinking about start playing with AfterEffects too.

    What I prefer:
    - AMD!
    - I love Asus Mobos. I would go with EVGA too, but it's Intel only and I think I don't have money for that.
    - I have big problems to decide between memories (timings and compatibility) but I prefer Corsair or G.Skill.

    edit: well, I had just a few hours to decide and I ended up getting the following config:
    - ASUS Crosshair IV Formula AM3 AMD 890FX
    - AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz
    - DDR3 4GB 1600MHz DUAL GT CORSAIR CMG4GX3M2A1600C7

    I just have some doubts about the memories (if they will work with the mobo) and I'll be able to keep my video cards config (9800GT + 8600GT for phisyX) when the motherboard was made for crossfire config. =/

    Thank you very much for your time!
