also virtual memory is not an issue, multiple cores handling programs like google earth adobe audition, office because it's become a standard..and MSN messenger with video calls and so on ad-infinitum. Pidgeon is crap.
Linux is for high school kids who want to rebel against their parents windows machines and feel cool while playing dungeons and dragons. Hoping their friends will bring up the OS conversation so they can "brag" about how non mainstream it is.
Or, Linux is used by people who want to make a stand - nay, who do take a stand - against blatant monopoly, which is what we see in the OS market.
I'm sorry but I don't like the fact that netbooks are forced to have 1.60GHz, 1GB RAM and 80GB (now 160G) HDDs because these are the 'restrictions' that Microcrap gives for companies who still want to use it's XP. I don't like the fact that they can put the price on the license for their OS as they see fit (what competition is there?) in other words, XP and Vista licenses costing the same.
Ad infinitum.
And frankly, gaming aside, I'm actually going to consider installing Ubuntu on my future netbook. The only reason I can think of for using Windows XP would be to have Office 2007 with the newest perks on PowerPoint for oral presentations. Other than that, Ubuntu, for a work-only machine, is, in my sincere opinion, far superior to XP, and most importantly to Vista.
(NB: I'm speaking of a NON-GAMING machine).
Awaits wave of criticisms.
I don't understand the typical (from what I've seen on the internets) attitude of linux users towards windaes. I don't see the problem with people generally wanting an OS that just works, without having to pissabout trying to find workarounds and drivers.

Well I didn't have to find any drivers for my lappie when I installed Ubuntu. It installed them all by itself (something that wasn't the case with Windows, where I had to install all these drivers from a CD-ROM).
Also, Windows XP works for a few months, before it needs a reformat (I understand maybe I'm not the savviest of How-to-make-Windows-last-longer-than-that users) but in general the registry just fills up with codswallop.
Vista is a mess, unless, of course, you have a 2.5 GHz+ processor (with 2GB RAM+) or a Triple-Core thing going on. These requirements make it difficult to have Vista on lappies, especially the smaller ones (unless you're willing to dish out $2000 for a mini-laptop).
It's funny that Dell released the Inspiron Mini 12 with Vista installed. With 1GB RAM and a 1.60GHz processor, the thing took about 3 minutes to boot up. Not to mention the lag was a serious problem.

Then again, 3GHz is middle-to-high-range in these times, isn't it? (excluding dual and quad cores)
