I say it's time for the masses to look at the Linux dishes.

    -No forcibly-installed shovelware/crapware/bolloxware
-No index.dat for Microsoft to look at your activities
-No "Genuine Validation" to impede you from obtaining updates
-No need to crack and keygen programs, or reformat your system every 5 months, due to plenty of very well engineered open-source programs (free stuff, in other words)
-Of course, if you want to install an OS on that gaming rig, then you'll have to go with Vista (unless you can install DirectX10 with XP, in which case I'd advise XP SP3 over Shista)
-But for that office, uni, school, etc work, Linux is the way to go. Also if it's the OS you're considering installing on a netbook, as opposed to a laptop or a PC
-Sucks less virtual memory, allows you to do shit faster, and frankly, I've grown to like the look and feel of Ubuntu better than any Windows OS. And that's only one of the many Linux OS'es
-For your HTPC (Home Theatre PC), if you're not rich enough to get those expensive TV players and ting, Mythbuntu as opposed to Media Center Edition is much better.

This particular mass did just look at Ubuntu.
    For about 1/2 hour.
    Back to Win7 for me.

If there is supposed to be something magical about Linux, it was not apparent to me.

Oh noes, how can you possibly use something that works.

Fuck that, I'll use something which takes ages to set up and doesn't have the drivers for the hardware I use.

i've had my phase on linux. it quickly vanished with the lack of 3rd party professional software for it. all those "nice" free versions of "similar" software were way inferior to their windows counterparts.
also, gaming and linux are a no-no. Also, the hardware drivers support is substandard, so why bother? People complain that windows blabla has a lot of problems with drivers, but whoever says that for sure never tried installing lots of peripherals on a linux box. go for wireless pens, bluetooth support, full scanning support, sound support, and so on. the list goes VERY long.
Plus, contrary to most users, i do know how to configure my windows and not have any kind of crap or need to reinstall.
actually, i only reinstall windows when i change my mobo (if it has a different chipset), and even that is not completely needed on Vista, if you know your shit.
Honestly, no windows true power user would even bother go for linux distros for quotidian use.

the pure existence of WINE proves all my points.

as for servers, i only use linux to save on my monthly rent costs, other than that, server 2008 all the way, with hyper-v etc etc.
i do use both, so i think i know a bit of what i'm talking about.

I like linux. After all its free, I'm using it on my laptop right now. Linux Mint ftw. (As for now...) Vista hog all the memory.

Vista Ultimate didn't cost me a cent... Linux users don't persuade me. (I'm not fond of either OpenOffice or Gimp.)

My roommate installed Kubuntu... I think he did it because (A) he's a moralfag who doesn't pirate, (B) he's dirt fucking poor, or (C) he wants to feel "l33t" (he knows html AND css, afterall). I'm leaning towards A and C, since he has a big fucking house.
