Collecting starts to hurt a tracker when you don't use the account. That spot that you are taking, can be well used by a decent member. Trading, in the other hand, hurts a tracker in the same ways, but it can also endanger a tracker. That's the excuse most sites use anyway. imo it's bs, since fbi and other organizations don't give two shits about private trackers, and if they did they would go after the big ones first. Iptorrents, bitsoup, sct etc..

what.cd is not a good advice for new torrent user who only have one tracker since it's quite hard to maintain a ratio and to find albums to upload.
well, to start, maybe you can give a try to :
general/0day trackers: demonoid, iptorrents, revtt.
music: stmusic, funkytorrents

True that What.cd is not the best site to begin with, but you have the initial 5 GBs of download where you aren't on ratio watch. IMO that should be enough for your music needs untill the next freeleech.

I recommend you start with IPT or TL, but the latter does have a wait time for new users.

Just remember to seed for as long as you can and maintain (at least) a 1.0 ratio. Then you're good to go .

IPT is nice, easy to get in and you seed easily too back to a ratio of 1.

If I wasn't in the BitTorrent community for long I would have used IPT alot too.

actually it just seemed like you didnt want me to explain it, but simply criticize.
now that im sure your actually curious about what i was saying - (thanks, it makes me feel so special)

my point was i didnt wanna follow someone around and use their respect for my own gain. i wanna find content and communities im intrested in. i wanna "move up" to more valuable resources (of my own opinion) for data.

yeah that's right. or else you can use bitsoup. it is really a good tracker too imo. easy to keep ratio and content is great.
