Thread: How long is the limited time Astraweb offer?

  1. #1
I was wondering how long the Astraweb limited time offer for $11 has lasted so far? I just cancelled my subscription after one month because I've downloaded the files I was after and already get 7 days free retention with my ISP, and I was planning on just joining again whenever I needed to. Is there a big chance the offer won't be around in a month or so?

Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy the $10 plan and just use that 25gb to download the stuff that isn't on your ISP's access?

LOL it would only be a dollar more for unlimited plus the use of ssl encryption...a far better option than your isps newservice...if you wind up missing the deal somehow though when you want to join they have a 3 month for $39 deal which alot of people like

The way I understood it is he only signed up with astraweb to get the file he needs that because his ISP only has 7 day retention. And now he is canceling his astraweb account and is going to go back to his ISP. And in the future if he needs something past the 7 day retention period he will sign up with astraweb again.

So if he is going to use his ISPs newsgroups until he needs a file and then sign up, pay his $11 for a month of unlimited, download 10gb max and then cancel and go back to his ISP, shouldn't he get the 25GB that never expires?

    Example:
    Scenario 1:
He uses ISP access and signs up for the $11/month plan when he needs longer retention.

Time comes along that he needs that longer retention, signs up, pays his $11, downloads 5gb worth of data, and cancels. 3 months later, same thing.. Now he has spent $22 to download 5GB

    Scenario 2:
Buy the $10 25GB plan, he spends $10 and still has 15GB left.

Now me personally, My ISP offers access, and its pretty good, but I chose to go with astraweb unlimited...

There are a heck of a lot of us that don't have any kind of usenet access via our isp anymore. My isp, Road Runner, dropped their outsourced usenet a few months ago after the NY Atty General made all that ruckus about child porn being posted on newsgroups. I think AT&T and Comcast also did away with the usenet access at about the same time.

So because of this I need a reliable unlimited account and Astraweb fits the bill for me. I download way to much to count on a block account each month.

I know this, I was referring to his specific post where he stated he signed up downloaded what he wanted and is going back to his ISP.....

I have the atraweb unlimited...I'm not saying its cheaper for everyone, just this particular case.... come one people read...

And depending on who their isp is they could very well find usenet service cut tomorrow or sometime next week. There are precious few isp's left that offer usenet anymore. I think for anyone that is serious about downloading from newsgroups should get an unlimited account and not just a block account.

I should have probably been clearer in my original post. When I first signed up to astraweb, it was to download quite a few HD files, which would have gone over the 25GB plan, and I also used it as an opportunity to download a lot of files that i previously missed, but I'm not entirely sure I went over 120GB, so maybe that would have been the better option. I'll definitely consider it next time. I think with a limit though I'd be a bit more hesitant to download things, knowing that it is going towards my plan, as apposed to when I get an unlimited plan and just go crazy with my downloading.
