well i currently have Window Vista and i am not really impressed by it

No. Why would it? You can't run both at the same timeIf you use Ubuntu Or Kubuntu it will auto install a boot loader so it's easy to choose which one boots...but no slow downs.

with a virtual machine software (like VMware) you may actually install and run Linux inside Windows but in this case you'll have both OS running at the same time which I think is not the case.
