LOL not a problem man I have giganews and its great. X days is the number of retention days you have with the server of your choice. Giga is like 240 I think meaning you can download a file that is 240 days old.
Go here and read either the newsleecher of grabit tutorial it will explain alot also read the quickpar sticky. Any other problems feel free to get me on MSN
You don't use Utorrent but you use newsleecher or Grabit, personally I use an app called Alt.binz and love it. A good way to understand is these are like utorrent they are the "client" and NZB files are like torrent files and yes No upload at all.
Giga is the news server or service you now have access to any of the files. We have a NZB section here with some really good stuff and there are a few good sites that are free and some that want money but IMO don't pay them.

Good choice on experimenting with Usenet. You are more than likely going to love it, and won't want to use private trackers. Well, at least the usual 0day/general trackers that are a dime a dozen nowadays. Some specialty ones still come in handy.
I recommend going over to the newsgroups board of this site and just read. You'll find all kinds of information in that board.
I could explain all this, but you'd still have more and more questions.
You'll be better off just reading about what Usenet is and how it works. You can find answers to terms like retention, posts, etc quite easily.
Perhaps you could start here? - http://www.dvdhelp.us/index.html?htm...html~mainFrame
/moved to File Sharing.

so far so bad..not liking this at all...seems like it is nickel and diming me to death..chuckling...paid for giganews, (well the trial of 10 days) and then pay, then have to pay for a news search software, tried a free on, grabii and was limited to x amount of searches a day otherwise pay a fee for unlimited searches a day, and so on. did you guys that started with usenet, run into this or did I jump into this the wrong way?
I am learning a lot tho...right now bittorrent seems easier and cheaper by far, but I am sticking with this till i figure it out and if it is as good or better than bittorrent..don't mind the 13 bucks per mo. but the extra here and there, and the second prog i am trying, newsleecher you can't buy but pay x amount per year...
I am not complaining, just that there was more to it than learning it but am learning. thanks to all who have helped and advised, if you have any more advice/insight to offer it would be appreciated..thanks again...t
That's b/c you're trying to use either the Grabit search or Newleecher's super search, or both. Screw both of those. No need for either of them.
Use NZB sites or search engines as mentioned above.
FST also has a good selection here but we only keep files for 70 days.
yo
thanks Pirate will give that sabn a try ..grabit worked but it only allows about 5 searches a day and then have to pay for more..alt.bin could not get to work, but will retry now that i have learned a little bit on this newsleech..will try all those sites and software..thanks for the heads up and advice..very much appreciated..t
