Thread: help and advice on trackers and usenet

  1. #1
I posted some of this in another thread and it was thought that I should post a new thread, thus I am..to those who responded in the previous thread https://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/f-bit...postid=3115835 many thanks for your advice and input.

First, my original request was I have seeded some football games on a tracker for the last 4 years so not new to torrenting so much, but like slammers, new to looking for dvd/etc trackers(football is all i know..haha), so looking to find a good tracker or three that has a good selection of dvds mostly. I did try one tracker, but everything was avi or xvid, which is ok if that is all there is, and the selection was not too good. I prefer dvd quality, full dvd when possible. But from searching the net and reading around here, that TTi, TL, BitHQ(especially this one, as I have read several places about them), cinematik, u**t, dvdclub, sct, and the other sceneetc's look promising oh and cartoon chaos for the daughter. I checked out each but they all require invites. Do any of them ever have open seasons, periodically that I can look out for? I have read a lot about invites and believe it is taboo to buy or trade etc for invites, so I guess if I need an invite what is the best way of knowing if a friend or other might be a member of one of these? I know some places have short windows sporadically where you can register without an invite. What is the best, and correct method to get an invite if possible for the ones that don't have open season? Thanks for any advice or recommendations Thanks again to the responses for this
Skizo thanks for the link to the reviews, it is very helpful

what is Elektr0nik and TranceRoute. ?

Usenet, I have never used and don't even know what it is. Can anyone point me to information on this? Is it filesharing, and do they do dvd size stuff? I have always heard of Usenet but never ventured that way thinking it was another way of chat and that type of thing...guess I was wrong. Can anyone help me on that, how to start, where to go to start, what is it?

My intention is not necessarily to request invites, just how one goes about finding folks that will give them if you don't know anyone at all that uses these places.

I am currently dling a couple of Scooby flicks for my daughter, but disappointed that they are divx...i like the full dvd and good quality and to burn it to dvd. Divx and xvid, I have to convert dvd files and even minor may have a little loss of quality....thus my pref for dvd files.

Thanks to all who replied and gave great advice...tim

elektronik and tranceroute combined make trancetraffic. All three are music trackers related to electronic/trance/house/dance/techno/hardstyle music. Trancetraffic is the 'hardest' to get into, therefore if you are new the advise would be to start with elektronik and tranceroute, which is already hard.

Usenet is what I use next to torrents. Yes it is a method of filesharing but different from p2p and torrenting. There is no tracker or whatever, only newsgroups, and these are public (oke there might be some private ones). A random user has a DVD at home, thinks he should post it on usenet. Goes to a newsgroup and uploads it. Done. Every other user just checks via www.binsearch.net or www.newzleech.com etc. if the movie they want is on there. If so, they download it with their newsserver. There is ratio stuff going on or anything. It is only leeching. And uploading a DVD (poster in usenet language) is not necessary.

If you don't mind forking over $11+/month, Usenet is the way to go. It is a far superior method of obtaining files than torrents.

Some people, even after experimenting with it find that they would rather download content for free, but even those are few and far between. And even of those, they never choose to revert due to lack of content.

Usenet was around way before private BT trackers. It predates them by some twenty years and releases of apps, TV programs, and the latest films traditionally go to Usenet first. It's always been that way. Usenet and its numerous groups, has many, many more uploaders than any private torrent site.

Now I'm not saying that some BT trackers don't have uploaders that cap TV shows or crack programs and release them exclusively to the site but Usenet is the place for getting releases first. You have to know the right groups, of course, but once you've got your favorite groups entrenched in your newsreader of choice, you'll find everything you need and will be able to download it sooner and faster than if you relied on your private tracker.

Using Giganews and Alt.Binz I have 240+ days of content to download* at max speeds which downloads, fixes, and extracts itself.

    * As an example, Newzbin can provide me with approximately 120,000 posts of content** whilst the average on my private trackers is about 10,000. Usenet search engines reveal literally hundreds of thousands of files available.

** That's new and old content. At max speed. All the time. With no need to upload.

    There really is no comparison.

Wow! thanks again Skizo...I went to that Skyck site and ran into all kinds of stuff that I had no idea what it was such as x days of content, posts of x, retention...no idea what any of that means.

if you don't mind my prying into your knowledge on this..

what does the x days of content mean?

Is there one particular one that you would recommend..i went to giganews and checked it out...thought it was pretty good. Is there one that is good, that like some private trackers ensures there are not viruses etc in the d/l's?

if you join one of them does that give you access to everything out there on all usenets or just that particular one

and do you use torrent clients, like utorrent and and no seeding?

    Thanks so much...t

ok, I registered at the giganews...what now? how do I find downloads...sorry for my newbiness and ignorrance..t
