As far as I'm concerned, music has to use melodies, rhythms, harmonies, etc. to supplement or complement the lyrics and emotions in the song.
you expect ryhthms? what are drums then?
melodies? have you litened to rap/hip hop lately?
harmonies? listen to 2pac - dear mama [/b][/quote]
I expect something a little better rhythmically from a drummer than a basic dragged 8-beat, which is almost uniform for rap.

Melodies... most raps I've heard have two notes; eminem's recent songs are no exception, the one that's the main rap for 8-mile is an example.

Hip-hop doesn't come into the equation because I wasn't talking about it.

And harmonies? How can you have a harmony if the guys aren't singing? Granted, there may be some raps with musical choruses with harmonies, but I'm talking about rapping in general here.

by "the main one" i'm assuming you mean the freestyle from 8 mile?

seems to me like you're displaying your ignorance on the topic...

I mean the one which is never off the bloody radio and is in the trailers for the movie - not a bad assumption to make.

And if all you can pick on is a technicality like that, you must be grasping at straws.

Forgive me for not enclosing the small technicalities of your argument in my description of my opinion of rap in general.

    Oh wait, I did.

And did I give you permission to link to that image?
