Back in the good old 80's I listened to pop music as a child, and i think i understand the business now, but then it was just songs and video's on top of the pops and chart shows on the radio, that was normal music to me.

Someone at college told me "Pop isn't about music, it's about fashion".

One of the most profound things I've ever heard.

exactly - pop is just popular/fashionable music of the time, manipulated by sound technicians then churned out like a jaffa cake, sweet, delicious and cheap but full of artificial colors and flavours.
