    The Intel x25-m 80gb is 235.

But that's the old generation intel. The new generation that's coming is supposed to be cheaper because they've reduced manufacturing costs.

The Intel X25-M (80GB) is £270 squids here, while the OCZ Vertex (60GB) is only £174.

I'm sure the new Intels will be worth waiting for tho' . It's a fairly new flowe of technology and my feeling is they haven't got it quite right yet.

A couple more years and we won't even think of buying hard drives.

I didn't know you had such a large difference in price for those two. I just looked them both up on newegg.ca and grabbed the prices.

Aren't those SSDs a bit sluggish at moving / writing small files. I read about them and the reviews reckoned only the top of the range one had better overall data speeds than a HDD.

In other news, I fail at winking.
I'm only using them for my os, so their job mostly involves reading, which they are win at. Their average write speed is also pretty win, it's a couple of fairly high end ones, I think. Not run any benchmarks or owt to see how they do with particularily small files, though.

May get a couple of raptors, just for games, next month or something

    http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/16/c...and-x128-ssds/ this kind of ssd.*

*I've not seen any reviews, though, they may not be that grate. Working well for me, anyhow. You can change the firmware in them and stuff, and they'll need that wotsit trim thing in the long run what with the controller, so the firmware upgrade possibility is a good thing.
