I use Jeskola Buzz on a regular basis. It is by the makers of fruity loops, but free. Of course fruity loops can be free also...

I use fruity loops, then chop em up and arrange in Acid.

What do you mean "do only intrumental"? I don't think it's possible to recreate an entire band just with a software program. Drums and percussion and 1 thing, but it gets complicated when you get into notes and chords.

You can learn how to make beats using a software that can be found at www.learntomakebeats.info. It's called Sonic Producer and it's pretty easy to use.
