I agree, they are both good movies with a war theme, but they are not really war movies.
What is Heaven And Earth about ? I have never heard of it !

L.O.T.R, for its special effects and the author J.R Tolken's famous book turned movie was as a war strategy movie .Also great story..
Full Metal Jacket, for sheer rawness.
Troy, crazy battle sequences, some of the fighting scenes were sick.

but saving private ryan is the graetest of all not just for the action also for the emocional part, when the doctor is dying and he remember a situacion with his mother, that was one of the best part of the movie.
