I'm not an expert but I think it's a good thing to format maybe 1-2 times a year.Originally posted by Wizzandabe@28 September 2003 - 14:47

He's talking about physically.
I don't think it puts any significant wear on your drive. Formatting simply sets up the file structure anyway...you
give your disk much more of a workout when moving large files, unpacking big archives, or download lots of
Girls Gone Wild vidoes all at once, like I'm doing right now.
i dont thinks it good or bad physically for your hdd, but i heard something about a type of formatting that was bad if u did it to much,
I mean formatting about once a week. I though it wa bad for the heads.

em dont know, coz if u think about it fromatting is kind athe same as using it, thought the activity is a bit more prolonged, but i wouldnt format once a week, i onyl format when i have to, sometime slonger than others
I format emmm when was the last time, I forgot now. But there is a member on this forum that was going to do it, maybe he will see light now.
If you use NTFS file system there is no need to reformat unless you actually want to erase all the files, in which case reformatting is usually quicker. Other than that, there are NO files which can't be removed, as long as you go about it in the right way.
In any case, reformatting does NOT remove boot sector viruses, because the boot sector is not part of the formatted partition.
However, reformatting does no physical damage to the drive.
