This tutorial is now outdated. As of today Aug. 21, 2010, the best solution for jailbreaking is www.jailbreakme.com/

This guide is for Windows only.
At this time, with redsn0w its possible to Jailbreak (Unlock and Activate) original iPhone (2G) and iPod Touch (1G and 2G as well) and iPhone 3G (partialy).
Your iPhone must be unlocked (from factory settings ) or you are restricted to use it with your official carrier only. You cannot apply Unlock at this time.
Full iPhone 3G support will come later with ultrasn0w (which will be installed via Cydia or Icy)
The free iPhone OS 3.0 Software Update includes some great new features, as well as all the features from previous updates. iPhone OS 3.0 also lets you run the next generation of iPhone apps, like peer-to-peer games1 and more. If you've never updated before, now is the perfect time.

    Downloads

iPhone OS 3.0 software update from:
    Code:
    http://www.warez-bb.org/viewtopic.php?t=2801985
    redsn0w from:
    Code:
    http://blog.iphone-dev.org/post/126908912/redsn0w-in-june
Only from there, never download from unofficial links!

    BootLoaders from:
    Code:
    http://tinypaste.com/1d0f9
    Go to Installation Instructions.

next go to Jailbreak and Unlock process.

After following these steps, your iPhone will reboot completly unlocked, activated and jailbroken (iPod touch too)

The steps below show you how to add AppSync for OS 3.0.
Since the original miPatch and MobileInstallation does not work, this is the only way to patch your device to make it possible to sync cracked apps from App Store.
Do not install them coz they wont work! Only AppSync will.

    i have an small question:
My Operator(Etisalat) is licening iPhone now, do i need to do all of this?
i should tell you that what iam running is version 1.X with jailbreak and all other thing done when i bought it, i need to update it so i can add apple application.
ive spoken to my operator and they told me no special SIM is needed, so can i assume that if i update atleast i will be able to use my phone?

btw what dose this OS update do? ist an addon or its same as apple update.
is there any backup software which i can use to restore in case thing doesn't go as i thought?

You should update to the newest 3.0 firmware. All of the 1.x firmwares are well outdated and almost two years old now. The 3.0 firmware has several advantages and you can read all about them on Apple's website.

Each of the jailbreak/unlock apps will only work with the firmware you are upgrading to. In other words, this guide is for jailbreak/unlock of 3.0. It will not unlock/jailbreak any other versions.

If you ever need to restore your phone, just plug it into iTunes and either do a "restore" back to a previous restore point or you can restore the phone back to factory settings. Afterward, you'll just need to take a minute to re-jailbreak/unlock.

thanks for your reply but i still didnt get answer to my question, do i need to unlock even though my operator is licensing the iphone. my concern is since my iphone was bought from other region will it function without any trick, that's where Unlocking kicks in. jailbreaking to my knowing is mainly to add cydia or Install.

yo skiz, why we need to download os 3.0 from that link if we are going to update using itunes?

It's been a while since I've done it, but if I recall, you don't need to do that to unlock it, but you need it to jailbreak.

I think it needs it to edit the software but I've never researched that part.

    Just do it already!
