I also had DirectX problems with Halo. It refused to start:

I put it in Windows 98 Compatability mode and it worked a treat

If you have the same problem it should work for you too.

ok, i was playing slayer ealier.. seemed ok .. make sure we have vehicles.. they make it so much more enjoyable
