i know the nba series is still there and doing well.
did madden really take over the football scene?

EA Sports, the company behind Madden, signed an exclusive deal with the NFL. 2k did release a football game not that long ago, but it was based on hall of fame players and fake teams, since you can't use any NFL stuff anymore. That's why NFL streets has licensed content, but Blitz the league didn't (although I doubt the NFL would have sanctioned that one anyway)

They have similar deals for NCAA Football, Nascar (auto racing), and the now defunct Arena Football League. The NFL one goes through 2012, The nascar one might be expired, and the AFL doesn't exist (official anouncement in the near future per ESPN)
