I've tried most commercial and freeware alternatives. While Norton is generally bad, the 2010 beta was fairly snappy.
My advice for a free service would be a combination of Avira Free and Spyware Doctor Free (Part of the google pack). Running Spybot S&D as well as Hijack This! occasionally is worth doing as well.
As for paid services, none that i've tried have been very good. NOD32, while light on resources, misses a lot.

I have question for everyone using ESET Smart Security/Nod32 with illegit keys/logins, is it safe/advisable to submit the scanned problem files to ESET?

you can try MSE (Microsoft security essential) ,it is good & free .

eset nod is the best go to there site and compare the others dont even come close on many levels like performance, detection, false posatives, start up, and awards for best anti virus

I'm getting sick and tired of Eset telling me I have to update windows security patches , what a pain . Using ESS 4.0.314.0 wish they stop that .
Only thing is I'm using FireFox as my default browser so does n't connect anyway , what a joke .
