I think I want to put windows 2000 pro on my windows box instead of xp.

Is windows 2000 pro any different or is xp better. I like xp but it gets on my nerves sometimes.

xp is built upon windows 2000 (nt) so they are very similar in what they do windows 2000 has a win98 look where as IMO xp looks alot better xp has a few more features but because of the eye candy in xp you need alot more resourses to run it

its not abt the look all the time. Go with Windows 2000 advanced server or professional.

For those of us who have the software knowledge equivalent of a turnip (and not afraid to admit it), I would definitely recommend staying with XP just for the sheer stretch of it's "user friendliness". But in your case, I do not think that would amount to making much of a difference.

I suppose that I would just use what I call the "power play" test. Unplug your system from the socket. Everything- all at once. Leave it off for a minute then plug it back it. Can 2000 handle it?

Besides- XP may suck monkey balls when it comes to resource management, but I just like all the pretty pictures well enough not to ever downgrade to anything less.

I beg to differ, I loathe XP

The good-damned "this driver hasn't been licensed by microsoft" all the fuggin' time and the registration bit and all that.

Win2k has never let me down, XP annoys the heave-ho out of me, my comp. works swell with win2k and I hardly ever have any trouble, but every time a neighbors pc or one that belongs to my parents or my brothers needs something installed or starts acting funny, guess who has to fix it... ...and it's always XP, it is a blight on this earth I tell thee.
