Thread: How to: SABnzbd+ / Firefox / nzbdStatus / Newzbin

  1. #1

    Heart

    This how-to is as specific to Windows as you can get, which is not very specific, if you have another operating system, you probably know all about Python, and it's cross platform nature. (Also the best darned calculator you could ever want.)

    Files needed:

    SABnzbd+ (binary newsreader) -> http://www.sabnzbd.org/download/
    Firefox (Browser) -> http://www.getfirefox.com/
    nzbdStatus (Firefox plugin for Newzbin) -> http://sourceforge.net/projects/nzbdstatus/

    Install SABnzbd+, following installation or by default, whenever you start SABnzbd+, your default web browser will open to http://localhost:8080/sabnzbd/

    Fill out the server information by going to Config -> Servers, followed by going to Config -> Newzbin and filling out your username and password for Newzbin.

    (Remember to 'Save Changes' after every addition or change to make sure it sticks.)

    One more thing here, head to Config -> General and nearing the bottom on the left side, look for API Key: and copy the seemingly random numbers/letters.

    Install Firefox and browse to grab the nzbdStatus plugin.

    After installing nzbdStatus and restarting Firefox, you'll have an icon in the bottom right hand corner of Firefox, right clicking opens a task dialog box, click Configure nzbdStatus.

    With the nzbdStatus Configuration box up, you'll need to paste the API key collected from the SABnzbd+ web panel, followed by pressing OK.

    Head over to Newzbin and you'll notice the download NZB icons are replaced with a send to SAB icon.

    SABnzbd+ will handle all the downloading of the NZB, downloading the articles linked in the NZB, parity checks and extractions.

    Very nice Thanks :-)

    Not sure I understand. What exactly does this do?

    nzbdstatus changes the icons from "Download NZB" to "Send to SAB".

    So, instead of downloading an nzb file through your browser, SABnzbd will request the nzb of the specific Newzbin ID# and start downloading the nzb, followed by downloading what it points to, it keeps your download directory free of nzb files, as well as it makes it a little easier and automated.

    It's under My Account -> Account Actions ... -> Topup Account.

    They have a sale generally during December, so might topup til then.

    They certainly are number 1, even with 240 days retention, # of reports/search options/etc., absolutely no contest.

    Did you need an invite top?

    You don't have to use Newzbin, Filesharingtalk will be supported soon, and this site http://nzbs.org/ is supported.

    I've heard of nzbmatrix being supported, to replace download links with SAB links?

    Sadly though, Newzbin is still #1 a million times over with only 240 days retention. :-(

    I love Newzbin, but 240 days in today's world is too low. :-(

    I won't ever ever use Newzbin, if your adept enough FST and a search engine is all I need. I've found everything I've ever needed by using maybe at the most 4 sites, this one FST, NZBs.org,NZBsRus, and the search engines, and if you have Supersearch, that just as good as Newzbin, granted as long as you know exactly what your looking for. 99% of the time SS finds what I want, and at the same time it's being posted. It's worth the $2.

    Yes NZBM supposedly will be supported on the Next upgrade, but who knows.
