Hi, I just recently became a newzbin member (No I don't have invites so don't PM me, and I didn't get in from here so please dont ask me who I got the invite from). I've recently been browsing through it and I'm a little unsure of what the incentives are of using it. I'm on the verge of deciding whether I should pay for it or not, and I know quite a few members here are in newzbin, so I thought I might ask here.

I like the "user indexing" concept, which was why I sought out an invite in the first place. I'm too retarded and lazy to filter through fakes on auto indexing sites like nzbindex or binsearch, I dont have the stomach for it . So far I have already seen nzbmatrix, and a couple of the forum sites like Merlins Portal that was posted on the useful sites thread (should be stickied btw). I haven't paid for any of them yet, but I'm considering paying for NZBmatrix as it seems well organized, has good retention and is a lifetime membership.

I have been briefly looking through newzbin but I am a complete newbie to usenet so I may be missing alot. I'm not quite sure what makes it the "king" of indexing sites. What other good features does it have that gives it the edge over sites like nzbmatrix or forums (like rss, other things, ect.)? NZBmatrix seems to have better retention (I can find up to 400day files), and forum sites seem to be pretty extensive as well, while newzbin is still at 240 days. Does it have better content, more varied content, better pres (Almost sounds like I'm talking about torrents but don't know how to put it lol) or anything else that I should be aware of?

    Thanks for the help.

Cough, NZBs.org, automated, rarely any fakes (I've never had any, plus I think ppl release stuff auto indexer's miss), and you can make it automated through Sabnzbd, you like show, tell you like show, show download without user intervention. Also, do remember, there is a on going case with the MPAA and Newzbin, so from my perspective, I would rather them not have my credit card info, or pay pal info.

Wow! Thanks for the link! Is that *really* automated? It seems very well organized and filtered for an automated service

So I just did a couple sample searches of things that aren't really obscure but aren't the most mainstream (leftoverture and survivor music, gilmore girls), and at NZBrus and NZBmatrix I got multiple, 10+ results while at newzbin I didn't get a single one. It just seems like a steaming pile of hype to me . Unless theres some really amazing redeeming feature, I don't really see the point.

As a side note, SOL I've noticed that you used supersearch and have reccomended it before, what advantages does it have over say binsearch or nzbindex? And does it have any system of filtering out fakes like NZBs.org has? And just curious, is there a payment option to just get supersearch w/o the newreader for a lower price?

ditto on nzbs.org i use the site and i just started and i like the rss feature. i pop it into my utorrent. then when i see a file i like. i then just right click download the .nzb and pop it into my free sabnzd or into newsleecher cracked with the free usenet acct. that ontop of my bt sites makes everything available to me.

Well, you can use the Alt.Binz free version, it's v0.25 and just buy SS then. SS turn around time is like 2-5 minutes after the post, also, you don't have to rely on search engines...although NZBIndex's turn around time is up there, +- 5 minutes or so, the rest are above 10 minutes. SS makes in convientant for me. I really like it, though I've been using NZBIndex alot of lately, if you know the file name and how to spot fakes, your all good. And if you search the right groups, eg.... go to NZBIndex and just type #a.b.teevee and you get really great results, if your looking for specific, then do #a.b.teevee Lost, and you can do that for almost any group. But I think it's worth, NL is that price for a year and shit I've been using v3.9 forever and is fine with me (pm for the special, if you want to test it).

NZBs.org is automated yes, and as I said I assume the staff adds some it misses, like from groups it may miss, or funny named file names, and yes the link is good. You can use SABNZbd to auto download all your NZB's as well, I think Tesco is intergrating that here as well.

All those obscure links you talking abut, you can do through SS ($10 cheaper than NZBMatrix and too many n00bs there), ad through most search engines (NZBIndex) and if your good at spotting fakes (just look for the scene file name and the right groups, you'll get good at it),. I've been doing this for almost 10 years now, and form exp, it's really easy to spot fakes, but some slip through, but generally speaking SS and headers and search engines are good enough for me, but sites do help when I miss stuff, which is alot

i have paid for membership on nzbmatrix and its weel worth it imo, also i use nzbs.org rss feed with sabnzbd and for me it kicks ass.

newzbin i dont quite get the fuss, i find the whole place a bit long winded, i just like it simple so dont bother paying if you ask me.

How many NZBs do the others keep anyway?

I know for Newzbin, right now it's 264,300 NZBs for 240 days (not including porn, separate site)

Being a 'VERY' long-time subscriber to Newzbin, I find that it's more a bit of habit than anything else.

I find lots of poorly documented listings there (and occasionally post my thinking when I find the REALLY bad 'editor' jobs), but find that many sites (I use nzbmatrix a lot), are not only as 'good', but find MANY listings that Newzbin, for all it's 'power', misses completely. Zooms right over their 'big head'.

I used to do lots of header downloads, but have recently backed off on that, even for groups I like to monitor; reasoning is that it appears to mean that standard def DVD's are ramping down to total death. I used to allocate $100/month to buy things (haven't paid full retail for years, though, mostly ebay), but the studios have been putting so much effort into Blu-Ray that the SD offerings are getting pretty lean. Too lean.

Most effort is now towards x264.

Governments of the Industrial World, you weary giants of flesh and steel, I come from Cyberspace, the new home of Mind. On behalf of the future, I ask you of the past to leave us alone. You are not welcome among us. You have no sovereignty where we gather [...] I declare the global social space we are building to be naturally independent of the tyrannies you seek to impose on us.
