    Question Mark

    Hi guys,

I've been looking for some software or PHP script that must do the following:

    • automatically scans determined HDD's directories and adds the movies to the database
    • goes to IMDB etc and retrieves cover, details, etc

this process can never be manual. I don't want to manually add 1200 movies I've on my server's HDD's

I used Valerio's mediamanager PHP script, and it was wonderful. The perfect script. But the damn thing now refuses to add new movies when I make autoupdate. I guess it has something to do with my Windows Server 2003 permissions, but I've tweaked them to the max and yet I couldn't find what is blocking the program. I've tried both apache and IIS to run it, i've manually configured PHP5 and MYSQL too. I'm far from being a noob to this stuff, but this one I can't figure out.

So, do any of you know a decent alternative? Please don't post the usual stuff that you have to manually add the movies. I know many of those, and that's not what I'm looking for.

You may want to ask kallieb what she uses. I remember her having an extensive collection and a cataloging program she loved as well.

Till last year I used ANT movie catalog as my movie cataloging software. Now I have a media center pc with media portal as front-end and a datacenter server where I store all the files. There a lot of plugins that do the job automatically not only for movies but music, tv-series even photos.

Of course it's not the easiest software on earth to install but after spending a few weeks now it is really easy to use. Even my wife can use it to listen music or watch her favorite series

Those will do all the scraping for ya. Also, there are some other alternatives that are smart enough to read your files ie dexter.406.hdtv.xvid and put it into a folder subfolder structure so that it can parse names from the folder to get better results from IMDB

ie - put it in /Dexter/Season4/dexter.406.hdtv.xvid so it just scrapes info on imdb for Dexter. It may be smart enough to find a poster for season 4. Havn't really looked that far into it though.

It was this suite with sandbiz something or another (for newsgroup downloading) and that suite had an autoparser and a imdb scraper with it. It's not sandbiz, it's called something else, i'm sure you can find it. It's pretty popular so the newsgroup guys will know what i'm talking about.
