As for the "untold losses" there is the assumption that everyone who dl'ed the game would have purchased it. Sure, they lost some money (most likely more than I have ever made). A lot of people will take something if it is free. The game of the year, or w/e will still be just fine. It might even end up under the xmas trees of some of those who already dl'ed it.
And regardless, Del Amo will be very popular under the mistletoe. By year two, he can use his asshole as a wreath.
