As I understand it, when a game "goes Gold", that&#39;s when they ship the master copy/copies of the game out to the pressing plants, and begin mass production. Anything before that is beta.

And if the person who grabbed the source code, which was supposedly a month old, also grabbed a working version of the game at the time, then it&#39;s most definitely a beta.
