There is a huge difference between a for-profit tracker and one that seeks donations in order to "keep the lights on".

Trackers should not be punished for asking for this kind of help. However, those who seek profit do not deserve that either.

Since we are coming up on Thanksgiving here in the US, I will explain the three "business models" in terms of dinner.

In the first scenario, a host invites guests to join him/her for a meal. The host has no shortage of resources and does not ask the guests to bring anything. This is very generous, but some wonder how it is possible to feed so many without asking anything in return.

In the second scenario, the host asks a few guests (if they are able) to bring something to share. Those who can afford to be generous are appreciated for their generosity and might receive some kind of mention at the table for doing so. Those who are not able to give much are still welcome. It is only asked that they be courteous and observe the rules of the house.

The third scenario involves the selling of "tickets" to the meal. No one is welcome unless they pay for their admission. No one is really a guest, as much as they are a customer.No one really likes this kind of asshole, but some go there just because they have not been invited to a nice, welcoming feast.

My point here is that tracker owners should not have to pay all expenses in order to receive respect and appreciation. Trackers who insist on "getting paid" for their services need to leave the community and never come back. They simply are not in the same spirit as the rest of us.

That was a good post while agreeing to most of the above post I would like to clarify a few points. This thread is for information for myself and others to know about trackers who do not accept donations. It is not for praising these trackers just because of their not accepting any donations. The matter of fact is that I actually came to know about a few more such trackers which I was not aware of earlier.

I am of the view a real tracker/community is such that where members and tracker both support each other. Members paying for site costs out of loyalty and respect is the best possible balance a tracker can achieve. As you should know my most favourite tracker is Torrentbytes.net which accepts donations. That should clear my point of view to you.If I have to chose just one tracker out of the total number of trackers I am on at the moment that would probably be TorrentBytes.

It may be interesting to some that certain sites do not accept donations. However, people need to be aware of the differences between non-profit, not-for-profit, and for-profit based trackers. Only the for-profit is our enemy.

Threads like this need to also educate the community on where we draw the line. Good sites that are asking us to help them meet their basic expenses deserve our support. It is only fair to help them meet these expenses.

I don't get why people ask about reasons for not requesting money. Filesharing is about fair and equal treatment for users to access resources other users want to share FOR FREE !

Nor docs.torrents.ro (known as Docspedia now), nor tv.torrents.ro (known as Freshon.TV) have ever been advertising anything or offered donation system for a simple reason: we are doing just fine with our own resources and we don't need extra money.

We don't want to be conditioned for advertising something or to offer advantages to some users who can afford it, discriminating the ones who cannot, just for a couple of euros. Every member has the same privileges and should respect the fair sharing principles. Would this concept be the same if we stress the members to click stupid adds or if some users can overpass the fair ratio system by donating? I strongly believe our statement is more powerful if we are independent of any other third party will.

The docs/tvt/tro team is made of people who are willing to give something from their own pocket to keep the sites working and after all the investment isn't a fortune at all. We've bought our own servers, but we've found locations with internet connection where to collocate them for free, and we're just spending our free time to maintain the sites as our own will, without considering it an activity from which to get money out of it ! Everything is done out of passion and not out of any material interest.

the *practical* legal definition (as established by the wise and beneficient people at the IRS) does make a distinction.

"Not-for-profit" refers to an activity, for example, a hobby (like fishing).

"Nonprofit" refers to an organization established for purposes other than profit-making. Note here that nonprofit does not necessarily mean "charitable."

Also note that the use of the term "non-profit" with the dash in between the letters. There is no implied or distinctive definition attached to this word (as far as I know). I have noticed the use of this term to introduce concepts
or explain technical aspects of organization when an audience is *not* familiar with nonprofit operations.
