Does anyone know why most DVD rips at just over 700MB, and have to be split onto 2 disks? I can't imagine the slight loss of quality would not be preferred to halving the cost of your cd usage. Every time I rip one, I make sure it's around 690MB, so it can fit on any CD.

Don't be fooled by kazaa's filesizes being in KB (kilobytes).
The real capacity of a 700 MB CD is about 703 MB which is around 720,000 KB.
So anything below 720,000 KB will fit nicely in a 700 MB CD without overburn.
There are some formats like (S)VCD which have bigger filesizes than the limit, but they will still fit a 700 MB CD without overburn. Go here for more information.

this is correct. a lot of people make the mistake of thinking 1000kb = 1mb, but it isn't.
and with a lot of 700mb CD-R's, you can overburn to approx 710mb. it just depends on your burner and the brand of discs.
