it's not a rumor, it's real. what a pity.
ZOMG dood where did you get that from
I heard from this guy that this was how he tunneled the cash,Whether this has been posted or not I am not sure...Whether it is true or not I am not sure of either...We may or may not ever know....
That was the donate page source code when n00b money came in no problem. The highlighted part as I hear was the website where the dirty money got cleaned(they call it tunneling or something).
Pretty neat site as you can see. What this simply means is that he was able to fool paypal that the donation money was his fokin hard earned cash as you were led to paypal from that legit little business and not sct.I can't post the other screenie coz of privacy rules but it shows the cash went to straight to his pockets.
Now that I heard that from that guy,it kinda reminded me of this biff between feeling and dj a while back(unless of course am mistaking) and if I recall correctly it was about money and that dj was hogging everything not allowing anybody else axx to the cash(well lets face it,I wouldn't as well allow anybody else axx to my paypal especially some strangers I've met online).Could be wrong though and it would be nice if feeling could be kind enough to clarify that biff part for me.I don't want to assume too much.
Just because they used a company to process paypal does not mean they were profiting. I believe pretome and other sites have had trouble with paypal because paypal suspected them of being involved in illegal activity. Using a company as a front makes sense for paypal. It would also make sense to rent the servers through the company to be careful.
/fixed
So why did they discontinue using linuxhosted then?
Actually I think am mistaking, the moment this was revealed, there ceased to be a linuxhosted.ca and the owner disappeared as well.
Also if were to follow the rules of logic, you and I technically don't know what we are talking about so cheers to that(unless of course feeling has been filling you in on the side).
Mind asking him about dj?

Whether the whole donation thing is the case with ScT or not, the situation, as described by sez, would be much scarier than the RIAA or MPAA coming after you.
The situation described by sez, not saying its true or untrue, could put anyone having control of the money at extreme risk. "Tunneling" the money through another company, or more precisely, laundering the money is a big criminal offense throughout all of North America, as it's generally associated with organized crime or drug trafficking. Anybody with access to or even knowledge of how the money was laundered could be at risk. Money laundering and its associated offenses carry stiff penalties, including lengthy prison sentences.
If this is what caused the shut down, I wouldn't blame them. Those would be some pretty serious charges. Also, with money laundering, usually comes a whole whack of other charges.
Of course, this would all hinge on whether it was deemed that the money was coming from an "enterprise crime offense", otherwise, I think it's just tax evasion, if the money was unreported. However, with the current anti-piracy climate, I wouldn't put it past authorities to try and deem the operation of ScT an enterprise crime.
This actually raises some interesting legal questions that aren't generally related to piracy in regard to running a tracker that accepts donations.
