I have dual WD MyBooks (the black ones), a 500GB and 1TB both stable and run pretty quick on Win7, just using standard USB 2.0, external though, but they are great for backing up, just have a dual setup up of shitty internals, since I never store anything on them (partition them as well) and I can just plug and play with them....will be adding another TB soon, and will be getting a internal 1TB or bigger and dumping my old duals, but I will stay with WD nothing but good luck here with them.

If you ever do, please let me know how

I've been debating this - http://www.quietpc.com/gb-en-gbp/pro...-xtreme-4870x2, not so much for the heat as the noise reduction. Problem is I bought a top end card to last and I really can't afford to break it after less than 18 months

You can adjust the fan speed in catalyst guys. The ATI in my HTPC doesn't sound bad at all. This is my card.

Seems to be running fine, and quiet. Silent actually.

Transferred over 220GB of music in 40 minutes. I thought it was going to take a lot longer than that.

    Is that a reference cooler?

I've tried messing with the fan speed in catalyst, and with custom profiles, and I've come to the conclusion that the reference 4870x2 just has a pathetic fan system/design . Its the one big flaw with ATI's top end cards, especially the dual gpu ones, which I notice they still haven't fixed with the new 5970 (why's that not 5870x2?) - see bottom of this review

    That does seem pretty fast.

I just had to post about this.

This thread started out as me looking for a TB drive to utilize as a backup. I have 215GB of music as well as various folders I don't want to loose (everything from college, various PSDs, etc).

I started doing backups two Monday's ago I believe. Today, when I got back into town and fired up my PC, there was a lot of clicking noise coming from computer, and now the original drive isn't showing up in My Computer.

    Talk about good timing...
