Why not just have a application process if worried about who gets in, the staff could check if they were members before, if they can be trusted to use and keep the account? Or do they want to stay closed and keep the same member base as is?
Some people do want the site for the simple reason that invites are hard to obtain

, others want a good HD source. I am not sure how this and other dedicated hd sites compare to each other content wise.
Some members here did not have the HD space(HDTV etc) to be able to be a good member of the site if invited (as mentioned in this thread).
