Single thread 80MB/s or so.
Depends on the hard drive. The issue with bit torrent is torrents are like a giant jigsaw puzzle. Hard drives are much faster when they are reading or writing one file at a time. When seeding or downloading from 100 different peers then it is like read/write 100 different files at a time. All of a sudden buffer matters A LOT and seek times on the hdd matter a good amount too.
My recommendation is to avoid SSD. I also recommend you try for a four hdd raid 0 setup or find a setup that uses hdds in the cloud. Either way, a 2 hdd raid setup will work fine for gigabit but if you want to seed at 124MB/s AND download at 124MB/s at the same time (duplex) then a 4 hdd raid setup starting will be required.
Also, software vs hardware raid matters vary little. Software raid uses the cpu to transfer the data from the hard drive out to the internet while hardware raid does not use the cpu for such tasks. This is why hardware raid is always better. It also has extra buffering which is often a must. Regardless, software raid will work too.
And finally, setting up your torrent client properly can help a lot. Change the average buffer from 32KB to 128MB can help a lot, for example.
