Thread: Whats the best antivirus+firewall for Windows 7?

  1. #1
I'm currently using BitDefender GameSafe on my Windows XP notebook.
I have installed Windows 7 Professional with a dualboot. Now I found out that the drivers of GameSafe aren't 100% supported by Windows 7.
So I'm kinda LooKing for a good solution.. I don't need resource intensive software like Norton.. my notebook needs the speed

    Thanks in advance!

I have used zone alarm security suite on every xp system I have ever owned and haven't got one virus. Right now I am running windows 7 64 bit on my main rig so I had to switch.

I use kaspersky as it is an ok alternative to zone alarm. Its fairly light weight on the system and has a good scanner. Also may I note that I also have not had any troubles with it.

ok..first of all Norton is not processor intensive, thats a misconception made by people who have not used the 2010 version, believe or not,i have used Kaspersky and Eset for long..but after i tried this version, there was no going back.i have a old PC with 1 GB RAM and the Norton icon is usually the first thing to show on my Desktop.

Commodo for firewall, nothing better for a average user.

Norton is a virus that you need to basically format your drive to remove. Also their is this program that you can download that attempts to delete it but usually fails.

Norton is the biggest hunk of trash ever known to man. I rather download random links with no virus protection than use that trash.
Norton is an epic failure, the scanner takes foreverrrrrrr , the firewall is just so bulky on the system that you can't do anything but write documents on ms word.

    Kaspersky or eset

Not that it matter, but they definately know more than u,and Norton cant be that bad.I have been around these brilliant people for long and has always tried to learn from them and other techinal prominents out there.

Kapersky was even having problem comming up with the Win7 version because of there obselete code,i was using it then..lol..and the new version of Eset is worst than the older version,in my opinion

    Still each to his own

I did some more research on the new norton and it isn't as resource hungry.
But you still need to download a separate program to remove all traces of it.

I also found zone alarm came out with windows 7 support. Can't wait to test it out.

From previous encounters with Norton I can never download it again, I'm sorry they ruined their rep with me.
Especially when their detection rate is always lower than kaspersky....

Download.com does a review of their detection rates every once in a while, very interesting. I'll find you the link.

These geniuses at Norton that you talk about made an anti virus in 2005 that had its own backdoor through the firewall it self. The firewall was a security hole itself lol, Oh the irony.

I'm just using Eset Security and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, very good duo for what I need .

Keep in mind I try a lot of cracked , warez type shit but feel protected with these two and Trojan Hunter when I fuck up and just have to run that dam key gen .

I use a free on line scanner for programs that get flagged , has come in handy .

I use comodo for the firewall and AVG for the anitvirus. Only complaint is that avg flags stuff that's not infected sometimes. Thanks for that link peat.

Your welcome Virch , sometimes key gen.'s get flagged unfairly as we all know . Comodo is too robust for me and hard to set up P2P .Very good firewall ... too good .

Example is my Malwarebites malware program , I turn off the IP protection as I can't see the " good" Pron sites , there's a difference vers good and bad porn sites ? All's good IMHO .
