Airport Body Scanners Go Into Action Today

The controversial body scanners that have been making the news over the past few months are now a mandatory procedure. Those flying out of the UK though Heathrow and Manchester airports may be selected by security staff to go through the body scanners.
While travelers were previously able to elect to be patted down by security instead of being scanned by the machine, that option is no longer available. Those who refuse will not be able to travel; this policy includes children, reported the Register.
Those who are chosen to be scanned by the new machines still get to have a choice of having their image viewed by someone of the same sex.
As officials have always maintained, images from scans will be deleted immediately after the screening procedure. Privacy firms, however, have found information that points to the scanners having the capability to both store and transmit images if configured to do so. "
