Airport Body Scanners Go Into Action Today
    February 1, 2010

    "

The controversial body scanners that have been making the news over the past few months are now a mandatory procedure. Those flying out of the UK though Heathrow and Manchester airports may be selected by security staff to go through the body scanners.

While travelers were previously able to elect to be patted down by security instead of being scanned by the machine, that option is no longer available. Those who refuse will not be able to travel; this policy includes children, reported the Register.

Those who are chosen to be scanned by the new machines still get to have a choice of having their image viewed by someone of the same sex.

As officials have always maintained, images from scans will be deleted immediately after the screening procedure. Privacy firms, however, have found information that points to the scanners having the capability to both store and transmit images if configured to do so. "

I don't exactly see the problem. Men have willies and women haven't. That's about all you can tell from the images, and most people know that anyway.

A German physician cheated the scanner. He shows the public of how it’s possible to cheat the system. He shows how to smuggle Termite through the scanner. Termite is not an explosive material, but it is a material hot enough to burn the plane and hot enough to even melt metal floor and other metal parts of the plane. YEs, it is possible to crash a plane with Termite. When Termite burst into flame with an extreme high temperature, then passengers won’t survive.

On this video shown on this webpage, you'll see how he demonstrate of how weak the body scanner is.

The other major disadvantage is that the scanner is way too time consuming. Let’s do some calculation here. Let's assume that this scaning takes 7 seconds per passengers. And there are 800 Passengers who needs to get on board on this Airbus 380 plane. Assuming that all passengers are not causing problems i.e no drugs, no attachments, no money hidden, no weapons etc…. Then it would take at least 1.57 hours just to complete the scanning.

    Edit: Linked fixed

From my understanding they don't scan everybody...
They only scan you if you make the metal detector beep or are suspected of something.

dont you mean thermite? that would be a little hard to pull of in a plane, maybe in the bathroom i guess?

Well, I don't agree with you. If they don't scan everybody, this would make the system is more vulnerable. Like with a metal detector, everybody has to go through it. If they only allowed few certain people to pass through metal detector, that wouldn't make sense.

You never know, who is carrying money, drugs, weapons ( knife, guns, razor etc.), powder, explosives etc... That's why everyone has to be checked on body scanner. That will be a heck of a time consuming issue for passengers.
If you assume that you need to bypass the metal detector and afterwards the full body scanner, then it would even take much more time in total. With 800 passengers, the total scan time would be in between 2.5-3 hours.

Let's see how it goes in the nearest future. I personally don't think it will be a success.

Well, you do not need to post more youtube links. If you take a look on that link that I provided, they demonstrate how to cheat the body scanner and they ignite the THERMITE.

No, it isn't hard to pull it in the plane. You find some empty seats where there is no one near you, and then you ignite it. The heavy smoke from the reaction will choke people to death. Even worse, if you ignite it on the seat which will cause more smoke and fire.

So if it is possible to cheat the system by Thermite, then it is also possible to cheat the system with explosives.
