nicely said lamsey, but there are many people with my cpu (P4 2.4 c or 2.4 ghz with 800FSB) that have oced it to 3.4-3.8 with water cooling, and 2.8-3.2 with stock fan cooling. i'm only at 2.6, and i don't feel like pushing any further.


and dude, ur ram is prob the problem. if not, then ur mobo is old. ur comp is pretty old, no offense. be glad u can go this far. and check ur cpu temp and post here. try using hmonitor or speedfan. great programs for monitoring over longer periods of time.

Why is my ram the problem? and mobo? I just bought 640MB DDR RAM PC2100 and my motherboards as well. It supports up to 3GB RAM at 400MHz.

Your processor default speed is 133MHz with a 10x multiplier.
Your ram only runs at 133 MHz, you would have been better advised to get PC2700 (166MHz) or even PC3200 (200MHz) memory.

You have increased the speed to 142 MHz so far.

This means you have increased the memory speed to 142 MHz, the agp speed to 71MHz (from 66) and the pci speed to 35.5MHz (from 33). Any one of these could be causing the problem you mention. You need to look at your motherboard specifications to see if you can lock these speeds down to their normal values.

The other alternative is to change the multiplier, but you may have to unlock the processor core to do that. Look at the links abu gave you for more information.

If you can change the multiplier to 11x, and drop the base frequency to 129MHz, you are at about the same frequency as at present (1419MHz), but the other devices will still be well within tolerance, so you can then try raising the base frequency again. If your processor hasn&#39;t packed up by then, you should be able to get up to 1562MHz.

1. Ok&#33; go into the BIOS and change the FSB or the Clock Speed?
2. Do I have to put more voltage into it? or do i not adjust the power at all?
3. Why is his ram running at 133Mhz? Is PC2100 the same speed at PC133?? And does he just need to lock the AGP, PCI&#39;s down or the memory too? Isnt highering the memory speed good?

7%? Risking what? In the case of an AMD CPU based system, which tend to run much higher temperatures, I might hesitate to overclock unless I knew I had more than sufficient cooling.

However, my experience with overclocing my GPU (well also modifying the driver as well) has given me almost a 30% performance increase (and hey--never had a problem with the hardware once).

Evidence: my non overclocked GPU 277 MHz core / 270 MHz memory DDR
score: 30910

and

here is my overclocked score 360MHz core / 286 MHz memory DDR
score: 37007

Hmmm, is that a bit more than 7%? You tell me.

I don&#39;t do much overclocking myself, but I&#39;ve read up about it and I understand the principles.

1. Usually, the FSB speed is the same as the clock speed, but if they are separate then ideally you adjust the clock speed first, and when you find the limit of stable operation you adjust the FSB speed too.

2. Once you have found the point at which the processor goes unstable, you can try raising the voltage slightly to see if you can then raise the clock speed even further. Take care though, increasing the voltage can dramatically raise the temperature.

3. PC133 was the old definition for sdram running at 133MHz, it is not the same as PC2100. PC2100 is the same as ddr ram running at 133MHz, but since it is DOUBLE data rate it is referred to as DDR266. And since the bus is 64 bits (8 bytes) wide, the bus bandwidth is 266*8 MB/s, which is approximately 2100MB/s, hence the designation PC2100.
Higher memory speeds are good if the memory can handle it, but the chances are that it will not be able to tolerate increases as much as the processor (as in q1), which is why I suggested he should have got higher spec memory. You can increase the voltage of the memory slightly to improve stability, but again this causes a lot of heat and memory does not usually have cooling.

Sorry, PC2100 runs at 133 MHz.

However, it transfers data on both the rising edge of the clock signal and on the falling edge of the clock signal, which is why it is called DOUBLE data rate memory. The data transfer rate is therefore 266MHz.

when i bought my bad-ass rig (sorry guys hehe) it came wit a OC&#39;ing program called warpspeed, it displays pc temp, clock speed and FSB, i can tweak it 1mhz or 3mhz burst...i like it pretty well, alltho i dont OC alot....
