Compressing Hard Drive On Ntfs

It has been awhile since I tried a compressed hard drive on XP Pro and I cant remember the pro's and con's of doing this. Has anyone compressed their hard-drive and what was your experience from doing this?
Did you have any problems installing or running programs?
Can you still defrag a compressed drive??

i am prob from the old school here but i wouldnt compress my windows partition....i do however compress other patritions such as one that i called "crap'n'stuff" where i keep downloaded stuff that i dont share the programs all run fine eg extracting etc (they arnt installed there) and yes defragging it is no prob.
