Well, F.P.:
You speak of the ubiqitous "they" as if you're not a part. When and how did you start out? Did you know most everything from the start? How do you learn if you don't question those that KNOW? Isn't a forum a place to discuss stuff like this?
99% of the people who respond to noob posts are constructive, thoughtful, and professional. Sometimes, I guess, some just like to rail their frustrations on the neophytes.....

actually, there are plenty of commercial DVDs which contain less than 4.37gb, so you can make perfect 1:1 copies of those. and double-sided DVDs often have less than 4.37gb on each side, so you can just use two DVD-R/Ws to copy both sides.

My drive's a "NEC_DVD-RW ND 1100A" Multi-drive. I've just purchased it new with the system recently so I'm not sure that my drive being old is an issue.
