Thread: Mod Chipping a PS2 how easy?

  1. #1
    Hello Everyone,

I was thinking of getting a PS2 but being the pirate that I am, I want to download and play games for free. Unfortunately where I live, pre-modded ps2s are rare.

I have no electrical experience but there are plenty of guides on youtube. Has anyone by any chance modded one of successfully with no prior experience with wires and soldering etc...?

Have you had a look at the Softmod guides, you should have everything except for some cheat disc to transfer to memory card?

Hope this helps, I've never been fond with opening anything up without some 1337 guru with me or a decent video guide. Took me a while to get the courage to upgrade my pc motherboard by myself

why not mod the 360 instead? surely you can find one cheap on craigslist or ebay or even premodded
just make sure to read the guides carefully, its intimidating, but rewarding

im not really familiar with ps2, but personally i think a cfw psp offers a lot more

that said after modding both, i still stick mainly to pirated pc games. . .

dude, modding the ps2 with a chip is a major biatch. i mean MAJOR BIATCH!!!!! go with the solderless option unless you have really good soldering skills. and by good soldering skills i mean you have to have nerves of steel, the soldering points on a ps2 motherboard are about as tiny as pinheads sometimes smaller. So, there's my two cents.

Why don't you buy the Swap Magic cds instead? That's what all my friends did.

At least it doesn't break your PS2's warranty.

id be willing to bet my dog's neutered left ball, that its out of warranty already. some people dont really wanna deal with all the swapping and covering of sensors and such. to those with great soldering skills id advise to chip it it would cost them about 20 bucks. but now a beginner i would advise to either get the swap magic discs or get a solderless chipping kit. the swap magic may be a bit cheaper.

also i have heard that you dont really need the swap magic discs. you can do it with a regular game by just swapping it out right after it initializes the boot. dont quote me on this, but it seemed believable to me. anyone who wants to open up their ps2, cover up the sensors, and test it, is more than welcome to try.

What you want is FMCB which allows ESR. It's a softmod via the memory card. Compatible almost all PS2 games.

If you can't do it yourself and/or you're missing a loading device, other people with do it for you

I'll personally vouch for those people. Trustworthy. Hopefully there's someone doing it in the country you're in. You'll just have to pay shipping.
