How much did your computer cost? $1000? $2000? How about your internet, maybe $30 per month?

Now count your MP3s... or better yet, count the number of artists. CDs usually have one artist on them, and usually have 10-20 songs on them. Take the number of atrists of the songs you've downloaded, add a few if you have more than 20 for an artist, since you'd buy 3 or so CDs anyway for so many songs, and subtract the number of CDs you've actually bought. Multiply that number by a common CD price... say $20.

Now add up all the games and software you've downloaded but haven't bought and total it with your MP3 total.

Pay for your computer yet? It would be an interesting poll... but i cant create one

I suppose you could subtract what you wouldn't have bought anyway (Photoshop?)

that's not how your account for the values of pirated songs/software

they have NO values, they are shared freely on the internet so people can enjoy.

dont mix them together.

how much are you willing to pay a copy of pirated software/song?

ZERO!!

That's true.... but what if you DIDN'T have a computer? This thread is about weather or not you indirectly paid for your computer by using P2P

id agree with mr bond.

i wouldnt have gone out and bought the vast majority of the pirate material on my pc, so really the music companies havent lost a great deal, and i havent gained a great deal from them.

Built my own Desktop for £1'200, 12 months ago. I have dl probably about 3'000 mp3 files (about 200 albums)and 300 avi files, I pay £28 p/month for adsl (12 month contracts up, so i can/will be getting it cheaper soon).
Now the figures....
£1'200 - Desktop
£28 x 12 Months adsl = £336
£200 on 700mb cd's - 500 cd's at 40p each (with cases)

Total Cost = £1'736

£1'736 divided between 500 albums/movies = £3.47 p/item.
Say no more.

Although I would not too buy almost anything fo what I downloaded I still understand the point of the poll. Between music, games, and software I'm well over what I paid for my system. I don't feel like adding up but it certainly is alot more than I would have paid for anything.

Photoshop is a very large sum of money in the shops, nevermind all the plugins I have for it, which can cost up to $400 each in themselves.

I have easily paid for my PC.
