No he doesnt mate.Theres no need to extract any audio .tmpg reads all formats fine. You just need to know how tmpenc up correctly.
Any Chance of letting us into your secret formula for setting up TMPGEnc correctly so we don't have to extract audio from any film regardless of what audio it has? [/b][/quote]
What secret mate??

For one it could be the combination of codecs you have install and the actual codecs you're using. What are you using?.And what ac3 support are you using a filter or codec.

All I can say is just make sure it has system(video + audio) ticked because I don't have any problems but since u say it might be in the settings but i never touch em.

Yeah no worries but you shouldnt have problems with tmpeg if its set up correctly and dont install unneeded filters and codecs which do cause problems. All the directshow vfpi etc are really is just access points for tmpeg to read your files and codecs. So if you have the codecs installed and you can watch the movie in windows, tmpg should read them the same,,as if u was watching the movie with windows media player. If you have no audio or tmp says unsupported, its obvious its not reading properly or getting to the codecs. If you have a fiddle and set it up so it can read the codecs the same as windows media player you wont have anymore problems.A few other settings you could change if you like, i think improves quality quite a bit on (s)vcd.Set the gop to 1.4.2 and max gop on 15 for pal 18 for ntsc and the vbr buffer size always on 0,auto.The qualities much better than tmps defaults imo.

The only codecs i have installed is

offical divx 5 codec +keygen
xvid codec 3/5/03
ac3 codec i havent got a link anymore but i'll post it some where.
a few odd codecs from the kazaa lite codec pack.

That's because the audio is AC3 and u have to use besweetgui (u can download it just do yahoo search) to convert to Wav and then to .mp2.

yes I follow exactly the things I have to your picture
still converted no audio

and when I tried to extract audio from the original avi
using virtualdub
that (above mentioned) error message appears

like I said before
there is no problem with audio and video when watching though

I just told u what to do download Besweet and Besweetgui and do it there are instructions on http://dvdrhelp.com. U get that error because the audio is AC3 and VirtualDub can't decompress it so just do this in VirtualDub: Go to audio>direct stream copy then file>save wav and when done change the .wav extension to .ac3 and then use besweet as I said.
