Help me setup my surround sound system. please

I have an HD television, but I do not have a surround sound system. My speakers for my computer are pretty good (a sub, and a couple of mini speakers) and I was wondering if there is any way for me to hook my computer speakers up to my tv. I was thinking about getting a equalizer and maybe a sound card if I need one. I also need new wires I think. Here is what i have now. Don't know if i actually need a equalizer but they look really cool.

I have a HDMI to DVI to my TV for picture and a optical wire from motherboard to receiver. Then another optical from cable box to my receiver. I am not using my speakers on my TV. I guess cause not sure if its worth it and don't have another optical on my receiver.
So my main questions are what do i really need to get the most out of my system??
Is it worth it to get a equalizer?
Do i need a sound card or is it fine how it is?
I also have this speaker wire.

The problem is the ends are all screwed up, its old and not sure if there is a better alternative. I was thinking about banana clips? Is it possible to use those?

Any help would be much appreciated.

If you have all that stuff, why would you bother connecting the Logitech Z-2300 to your TV? You said you dont have a soround sound system but you have the Sony STR-DE575 connected to your PC. Im a bit confused lol.

What I do, is plug the green jack from my PC 2.1 speakers into the headphone jack of my tv (which turns the tv speakers off). I have to power on and off the PC speakers by hand (I could leave them on I suppose) when I shut off the tv but the sound (especially the bass) is far superior to the tv's standard tiny driver speakers.

To do what you want thru the reciever, you could go out and buy a female to female stereo extender and cut it right in the middle and now you have two jacks you can plug the speakers into and then hook the wires or another type connection to the cut ends for the reciever input. If your really persistant you might find something already made for yourself, with a stereo female plug at one end and split to a red and white RCA phono connections on the other side (or whatever your reciever wants). The speakers you show are aready amped so watch you don't blow them with the recievers amp.

you might be able to do it with the speakers in the first two pics - do you have a separate subwoofer?

there should be a coaxial digitin in your receiver,using it and you will get an extra optical

What do you mean by an "equaliser"?

You have a 5.1 receiver with 100 watts per channel. You have two optical and one coaxial digital input.

Use one optical input for the PC (I wouldn't bother with a sound card, most of them don't provide a much better optical output, and you want to use optical from your PC because it doesn't transmit as much of the electrical nasties from your PC to the receiver as a coaxial cable).

Use the coaxial input for the source that you use to listen to music or watch movies the most (usually a DVD player or CD player). If you are getting a blu ray player, make sure you get one with 7.1 analogue outputs, because your receiver can receive these (limited to 5.1) and you can enjoy the benefits of the higher quality Dolby True HD and DTS Master Audio.

Use the other optical input for your cable box as you are doing.

I wouldn't use the Logitech PC speakers at all, the Sony receiver you have would blow them to pieces if you connected them!

Go out and look for a 5.1 speaker package within your budget...
