:?can Only See Wallpaper?

my mate had Win ME and then upgraded to XP using my XP Corporation CD, he used a cd key off the net and everything seemed to be working fine but he couldnt update 1 thing from the microsoft updates. it was critical so he read up on how to change his cd key. he eventually changed his cd key, logged back on but now all he can see is the wallpaper, he cant see ne of the icons or taskbar.
he can bring up windows task manager using alt-ctrl del
and he has to restart using this., but he cant see nething else but the wallpaper.
is ne one out there cool enuf to help us figure this 'probably-stupid-and-easy" pain in the ass?

While In Task Manager Go To Applications > New Task And Type In "explorer.exe"

If That's The Problem Then The Taskbar And Icons Should Appear.....
