Just wondering if I decide to get adobe cs4 from one of those sites to get it for free. will i still be able to update with out losing it and having the serial being blacklisted.

No you wont be able to update, but why would you want to update? The software cost thousands and the updates are sometimes useless and just add more crap on to your hard drive. If you really must update uninstall and download a newer version.
