Firefox add search engines

You know how you can add search engine to Firefox? For example you can add Last.fm artists as a search engine, you can add FTN search as a search engine, Wikipedia, Google images, Amazon, etc etc

(its the thing in the top right corner of the browser)


Is there a way to add something so that when you type in a word, google will search "define: ______" that word, so you'll get a bunch of definitions as your hits?

Or is there something similar which you can add to the search engine?

Yes, there is, but I've forgotten how and can't find the instructions atm. In the mean time;

• Name: Google definition search (can be changed, of course)
• Location: http://www.google.com/search?q=define:%s
• Keyword: gd (can be changed as well)

Then save it. Now, if you want to look up a definition, type gd followed by an space and the word(s) in the Firefox address bar and press ENTER. Not sure this is what you want, but it works for me

Ya, firefox has a keyword bookmarks system. The way anon-sbi outlined will work fine. You can also right click in any search box and click the "add a keyword for this search" option.

whoaa that first link changes my google to brasillian, but it does work. I'll have to look into that second link, I've used that site before for the Lastfm search plugin, but that looks like you can customize a link or something, and I'll have to figure that out.. Thanks

That sounds confusing, so I make a bookmark, and that bookmark will affect how my address bar works, without clicking on the bookmark? Sounds to accomplish what I want though.

edit: by bookmark you must mean to add it to that dropdown list. Yeah I see that keyword function in there, that looks neeat. Now instead of typing "define:" I can type like 5 less keys lol

Correct. Just type the keyboard followed by an space and your query. The %s in the "location" you entered will be replaced by the query. Opera has this feature built-in

1. Open This Google Query a new tab
2. Copy and paste this into the address bar:

3. You will see a small message bar asking to add application. Press 'Add Application'.
4. Now type: define:test in the address bar
5. Select Application:
Google Define
6. Check box: Remember my choice for define links.
