Most Blu-Ray burners are SATA, and the USB2 types are more generally the 'external' and more expensive. It really comes down to, do you have a spare 5.25" 'slot' available in your case for this device?
Obviously, anything external will have it's own power supply, and therefore be more expensive. BUT, you may not have a spare slot. Also, many newer motherboards are equipped with eSATA ports (external SATA), so that figures into things.
If you have a spare internal slot, that's the way to go. If you don't, then the discussions over.
BTW, the early models that were external were all USB2, and were VERY slow, but with the proliferation of eSATA ports on newer machines/motherboards, that has changed somewhat.
