Are you using XP? If so you can have Windows redial if connection dropped. You could also get a decent ISP.

I bet you are on WIN98?
I was, upgraded to 2000, and went from there, 100% on.
2000 Runs quicker then 98, on the same spec btw.

right click "network places" on desktop goto "properties" right click on "your dial up connection" then goto "properties" click on second tab "options" tick "redial if line is dropped"

also redial attemps shouldnt really be more then 3....(if isp is haveing probs setting this hi will only resault in hi phone bill, if your comp cant connect after three attemps its pointless running up a bill till ya work out why it wont connect)

time before redial should be about 3 secs(3 secs gives ya comp enough time to release its hold on your modem)
