i think they mean unlocking the multipliers, you can still overclock by the FSB if you don't do this

A Cpu is like 200 Mhz with a multiplier of 10 right? that would be 2000 Mhz! If you raise the multiplier by 1 up to 11, then you have 2200Mhz and i thought u were only supposed to go like 5Mhz at a time!?

you're probably getting confused with graphics cards, which can be clocked at small increments

overclocking CPUs scares the crap outta me so I don't bother

If you can't raise the FSB speed because of other considerations (AGP, PCI, MEM speed) you have to change the multiplier. So if normal speed is 200x10 = 2000, you could start at 182x11 = 2002 and go from there. Obviously the speed will go up 11MHz at a time as you raise the FSB speed back towards 200.

Edit: note, the method you linked to is for Palomino cpu's ONLY. It does not work for Thoroughbred or Barton cpu's.

Edit2: Just noticed that tomshardwareguide is also known as THG. Does this have any relationship to the newly uncovered steroid? Are the athletes being overclocked?
