you should remove bad frames before you ever think about encoding, virtual dub does it manually, but divx repair does it automaticely

I use Virtual Dub Mp3 to check the movie for corruptions. When it has found some I use Kazaa Corruption Fixer to redownload the corrupt parts and end up with a perfect copy of the movie. Works great for me.

VirtualDub 1.5.7 can also be used to "mask" a movie with bad frames which means that it takes the last good frame before the bad frame and replace the bad with the good one.

    Here is an example.
    here are 7 frames.
    [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7]

let say that frames between frame 4-6 are bad frames.

Then if you scan the movies for frames and set under Video options to "Direct stream copy",it will make the movie look like this after you have saved it as a new copy:
    [1] [2] [3] [3] [3] [3] [7]

Notice that the bad frames got replaced with the good ones before.
IF you get a VBR warning which looks like this:

then you have to choose under Audio "Full process mode"

You can also fix the frames manually by using "VirtulDub MP3 Freeze" which scans the movie for bad frames and then gives you a logfile over the frames, then you can choose to mask the bad frames or delete them.
    GUIDE HERE

What I use it with no problems at all and its automatic don't forget h/drive mind as it saves the damaged file again.
