    I'm not sure you can convert MP3 to MP4 without transcoding.

    I don't really understood what you meant but, if you wanna convert mp3 to mp4;
    media-convert.com/
    www.mediaconverter.org/
    these online tools also,
    this software called Format Factory also does the job done.
    But mp4 is not a new version of mp3 of something, mp3 is a audio format, mp4 is audio, video +text format. They developed by different people and have no connection to each other.

    Good luck, something tells me you are going to need it

    Thats right, mp3 is strictly an audio format and can be found inside most avi files (xvid with mp3 audio as opposed to xvid with ac3 audio). On the other hand MP4 is a video container and can have mp3 audio inside of it, but its mostly used now to indicate HD content with aac audio and x264 or h264 video inside or portable content for those type of players. Xvid, Divx, x264 and h264 are all different codecs and forms of the mp4 video container format, but they are not necessarily compatible with each other (I can play xvid and divx videos on my set top player thats divx compatible, but it will not play x264 or h264 or any file that ends with .mp4 for that matter.
