Work is under way by Sharman on the latest version of the world most used P2P application. Michael Liubinskas, head of product development, at Sharman Networks told Slyck about what to expect from Kazaa 2.6 and future versions.

The new version will come with magnet link support. Magnet link support is currently incorporated in BearShare, Limewire, Shareaza, XoloX, Morpheus and many other P2P applications. They enable uses to download files via links from websites with an almost certain guarantee that they have the correct file.

Several standards have existed for weblinks including network specific standards such as those that exist for eDonkey and Gnutella. Until now the only way to download files via weblinks with Kazaa was with Sig2dat links. With Kazaa 2.6 it will be easier to find weblinks as it will be possible to utilise existing magnet links resources such as bitzi. Michael said that Sharman view to adoption of this widely used P2P standard as important "so that all p2p applications can provide the same experience for users and content owners".

Other improvements in Version 2.6 include a new search view, improved Meta data display and the ability for content owners to package files into multi-media collections.

Work is also under way by those who conduct the programming for kazaa on the next major version. This will probably be version 3.0. The big change with this version will be support for multiple operation systems. Kazaa can currently only be downloaded for Windows. Presumably this means that they will support the Mac and possibly Linux for the first time since very early kazaa versions. It is also set to include a new look and support for a greater number of languages.

Sure, thats all very well to say, but doesn't the idea of a 'Multimedia Package' sound like something that would be a great imrovment to K-Lite?

    You could have

    +Albums
    +Games
    +Movies and Soundtracks
    etc

    Sound good?
