FYI I've just read that LottaNZB is a GUI frontend for Sabnzbd

LottaNZB is a front-end for Hellanzb, not Sabnzbd+. They're both great apps though. I prefer Sab for general/server use and Lotta on standalones. I used to use 'nzb', and Pan before that - but that's just getting old skool.

1st post here btw, hi everyone.

    Hi RainmakerRaw,

Sorry my bad. You are indeed correct. It currently does still use Hellanzb as a backend up to and including the most recent 0.5.4 release. The next version (0.6.x) will use Sabnzbd as the backend.

I've been running the latest 0.6 daily build as of today, which runs on the SAB backend. There's a very nice improvement, including the ability to know the progress of the PAR and UNRAR stages (hella doesn't report these). You can upgrade to the latest version by adding the LottaNZB and Sabnzbd+ PPAs (Google them) to your install.

That being said, here's my TOP-5 list (in order) of LINUX clients:

    1. Newsflash Plus - http://www.ensisoft.com/ -- NZB + headers

    2. URD - http://urdland.com/ -- web-browser-interface NZB + (compressed) headers

    3. Sabnzbd+ - http://sabnzbd.org/ -- web-browser-interface NZB Python client

    4. NNTPGrab - http://www.nntpgrab.nl/ -- NZB

    5. NINAN - http://www.ninan.org -- web-browser-interface NZB Java client

Honorable mention: HellaNZB (& it's many 3rd party GUIs).
A few others include Klibido, BNR2, and other dated 'abandonware'.

Overall, Newsflash Plus gets my vote as the best all-around Linux news client. It's GUI and settings are well laid out and easy to understand, and it integrates nicely with NZBs.org. It's 'missing feature' for me is that it does not let you prioritize servers, as others like Sabnzbd and NNTPgrab do, but that might not matter much to others. Newsflash Plus is a commercial (closed-source) Python-based client - currently free for Linux (but no telling for how long).
    Hello,

I'm the developer of Newsflash Plus. I'm quite glad to hear that at least someone likes the app. And I have good news for you too. The Linux version will continue to be free and so will the Windows version from now on.

A new version is coming out soon and currently the latest stable beta 5 is available for download at www.ensisoft.com

    Cheers!

New to newsgroups, use linux mint with sabnzbdplus.
It works fine for me, easy to install via Program managment.
