    Who shares fake files?

    1) RIAA probably, I did not see that by my own.

    2) other Kazaa Users who did not know it, I try to inform
the people as far as possible...

    What to do?

    1) Inform people if possible, but not all acccepting messages, that is sad
cause we have to share our thoughts openly to understand each other better.

    2) Edit File Description - Rate File as "Poor" if really FAKE! - Write your comments that it is fake or your thoughts on it and your Username and date...

or: if it is really fake and useless delete it... (but that is last option)

    thanks anyway, david.

    ~nice dreams...

I just corrected a "fake" that KL made for me. I ripped a song called "Hair of the Dog" by a band called WildSide, and went into MyKL++ to edit the details on it (Thanks again MM for that info on how to do that&#33 And lo and behold ol' KL had labeled it as QUEEN. Didnt change the filename, but Queen was listed as the band, in the file details. I'm guessing that KL uses some kind of name association for files that dont have any custom details appended to them.
Needless to say tho, I corrected that in the details, and even changed the filename so that it read that it's Not a queen song.

I added a thread on the tips section on it, telling peeps to check the stuff that they rip

I just saw a shot that they had on 60 minutes on tv tonight that was directly related to this. the focus was on the movie industry, not RIAA, but they even SHOWED a room full of peeps on laptops, sitting there monitoring the number of fake files that their servers were distributing!! It pissed me off! Oh, not to mention them incorrectly calling us "hackers" as well as thieves.
Whatever group/organization 'controls' that room full of people on laptops probably is doing it from a FIXED ip range...

yeah hopefully ppl are deleting the the mp3s that have the 20 second or so loops coz those are distributed by fake file companies (and completely blank ones)

fo instance right now i'm trying new songs from the strokes and a bunch of morons are sharing the fake files (first 20 to 30 seconds are from "last night" and they're on all of the song titles) and it's making it harder to track the companies doing the mass distribution of them

(try to) Message one group (the morons), ban the other (corps putting out the fakes.)

I also think if you ran a supernode, these 'badguys' would probably show up in a bandwidth monitor if you get one that can monitor traffic (amounts) by ip-to-ip and/or port.

i figured out an easy way to spot the company ones to then test (amidst the peeps who "don't know" they're sharing fake files) i do a search for the band and the album (from a new release) the first few usernames that show up "sharing" every friggin file are usually the fake file companies- i posted in the fake file guide thread in "tips" about it

yeah on the supernode deal- my pc is old and weak so i stick to "easier" methods

I can't run as a supernode either due to running under Win 98SE -- which overloads/crashes/gets weird if it exceeds 100 ip connections at once.
